Headboy's Speech

Posted by Lydia

The prefectural board might be imperfect in the eyes of many but to me  its chosen and ordained. Firstly we have strength in our members which makes us the most effective board so far, so long as we all co-operate, then the variety of characters complement one another and provide satisfaction in all scenarios. Looking at this board, all I see is progress.

As the Headboy of the 2018 board, I am going to offer the best of my services from leadership a leadership perspective, being an academic role model and the ideal older brother that the rest of the GEC family from form 1 to form 6 can look up to. Succeeding Sir Anesu Mandirahwe whose term was exceptional, I understand and now know where I am coming from and where I am going as a Headboy.

Being in the hierarchy of GEC is the best feeling in my entire High School life. I am aware that with great power comes great responsibility and I am ready to tackle all my responsibilities head on.

Though some may disagree, the Lower Six arrival is not a challenge. I was a Lower Six last year and the only difference between me and the younger students was the gold ribbon on my blazer; to the seniors I was an apprentice.

Enrolling at GEC will open all kinds of opportunities for them. Our school motto, “Determination, Success and Integrity” sums it all up. GEC itself is an opportunity for exposure, a chance to arise and shine.

Take to heart all that you are taught. Take heed especially of Aunt’s words because she is a woman filled with wisdom. Take advantage of the GEC environment because it will only make you the best. Lastly, results are important so study hard at all times.

I am working with the Interact and Debate Club’s to have two sweet surprises for the students at GEC. Watch this space for more details.

Prefects inauguration

Posted by Louis

30th of January 2019, the day that a lot of students had been anxiously waiting for had finally arrived. You could feel it in the atmosphere that it was a special day within the school, everyone was very busy with the buildup of the event with some preparing their presentations.
The newly enrolled form one classes were very excited and were anxious to find out the new prefectorial board that would be leading the school. As soon as everything was in place, the students were settled down waiting for the start of the ceremony. The event was graced by the presence of two officials from the Ministry Of Education, the school C.E.O, school directors and Aunty our resident school psychologist.
The senior girls started off the assembly with a prayer so as to bless the event before leaving the ceremony in the hands of the senior teachers Mr Mbodza and Mr Jusa. The two commenced the ceremony by announcing the names of the junior prefects with some of the names coming as a shock to the students and some of the staff members. It was not all smiles within the crowd as most students who were aspiring to be prefects had their hearts broken.
Now came the time for the announcing of the senior prefects as well as the hierarchy and this resulted in the creation of a tense atmosphere. The names were called out and the students’ body was quite pleased by the names that had been called out and some were shocked to have heard their names. The hierarchy was now being announced beginning with the 4 senior prefects and then the announcement of the two vice head girls in the form of Precious Ruth Naphtali and Ruth Batsirai Choto. There was also the announcement of the two vice headboys in the form of Tanyaradzwa Jeffrey Gwatidzo and Nigel Dubrey Shangare. Time came for the announcing of the 2017 head boy and head girl of the school in the form of Anesu Kenneth Mandirahwe and Zvikomborero Elizabeth Manyowa.
The outgoing head boy Mr Thulani Nyamapfeka gave an impressive and touching impromptu speech on LEADERSHIP which left everyone, prefect or non-prefect with an ambition to become a better leader within the school and the society at large. In his speech, Mr Thulani Nyamapfeka said “THERE ARE TWO TYPES OF LEADERSHIP, THAT IS THE LEADERSHIP ONE IS BORN WITH AND THE LEADERSHIP ONE ACQUIRES WITHIN THE SOCIETY”, this motivated the prefects to stand tall, be exemplary and make the school better than it already is.
After all this had happened, Aunty who is our school psychologist was given time to address the prefects in the presence of the rest of the school and she had them promise that they would produce good results as a way of setting a pace for the other students. In as much as this was a challenge to the prefectorial board, they took it as a motivation for them to be hard working and be leaders with a vision.
